Day 1 – Salzburg: A Fairytale Beginning to Your Bavarian Alps Road Trip

Start your morning at Hohensalzburg Fortress, the iconic castle overlooking Salzburg. The medieval fortress offers one of the best views of the city, with panoramic scenery of the old town and the surrounding Alps.
You can either walk up to the castle or take the funicular railway.

🚶 Salzburg Old Town

Day 2 – Zugspitze, Eibsee & Partnachklamm: Exploring Germany’s Alpine Wonderland
Day two is all about the landscapes that make the Bavarian Alps so unforgettable. Today you’ll visit Germany’s highest mountain, a crystal-clear alpine lake, and a dramatic gorge — three of the most spectacular places in the region.
🏔️ Zugspitze: Standing on Germany’s Highest Peak
Start your morning with a visit to Zugspitze, rising 2,962 meters above sea level and offering breathtaking views across the Alps.
The easiest way to reach the summit is by cable car from Eibsee, which takes you directly to the top with incredible views along the way. On a clear day, you can see mountain peaks across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.

The best views are from Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge), where you can see the castle perched above the valley with the mountains behind it.

Day 4 – Berchtesgaden Alps: Königssee & Eagle’s Nest
For the final day of your Bavarian Alps road trip, head east to Berchtesgaden National Park, one of Germany’s most spectacular alpine regions. This area feels completely different from the surroundings of Garmisch — with dramatic mountain peaks, deep valleys, and one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany.
🚤 Königssee: Germany’s Emerald Alpine Lake
Start your day at Königssee, a stunning lake surrounded by the steep peaks of the Berchtesgaden Alps. Thanks to its crystal-clear emerald water and peaceful atmosphere, it is often considered one of Germany’s most beautiful natural spots.
The best way to experience the lake is by taking the electric boat towards St. Bartholomä, a famous pilgrimage church located on the lakeshore with the mountains rising behind it.

The journey itself is part of the experience — a mountain bus takes you along a spectacular road carved into the cliffs before a final elevator ride through the mountain tunnel.

The history of Eagle’s Nest is complex, so many visitors come mainly for the incredible location and the views rather than the historical association.
